As our VFA community continues to grow, we’ve been thinking about what we want every client to understand about us—not simply what we do, but what sits behind the work we do.
You’ll see four words often at VFA:For what matters most.
It’s our tagline, but we’ve never thought of it as simply a tagline. It’s a reminder of why financial planning matters in the first place.
What matters most to you?
The answer is different for everyone.
It may be retiring with confidence and knowing you can maintain the life you've worked hard to build. It may be traveling while you're healthy enough to enjoy it. Helping your children buy their first home. Spending more time with grandchildren. Caring for an aging parent. Planning a secure future for a loved one with special needs. Building a business that supports your family today and can one day continue, transition or provide for what comes next. Giving generously to an organization you believe in. Remaining independent as you grow older. Leaving something meaningful behind. Or maybe it's simply knowing the people you love will be okay. Those are not investment decisions. They're life decisions. Money simply happens to touch nearly all of them.
That's why we believe good financial planning has to begin with something bigger than a portfolio.
The numbers matter. But they're not the point.
Investments matter. So do taxes, retirement income, Social Security, estate planning, insurance, charitable giving and the many other pieces that make up your financial life.
Our job is to help those pieces work together.
But before we can determinehowthey should work together, we need to understandwhat they're working toward.
That's where knowing you matters.
A financial decision that makes perfect sense on paper may not make sense for your family, your priorities or the life you want to live. Sometimes the best course of action becomes clear only when we understand the story behind the numbers.
And that story doesn't stay the same forever.
What matters most at 45 may look very different at 65 or 75. Children grow up. Careers end. Grandchildren arrive. Parents need help. Health changes. Priorities shift. Opportunities appear that weren't part of the original plan.
A good financial plan should be able to change with you.
For What Matters Most
For us, these words represent both a philosophy and a responsibility.
They mean taking the time to understand the person before making recommendations about the portfolio.
They mean asking questions, listening carefully and looking beyond the decision immediately in front of us.
They mean recognizing that behind every account are people, relationships, responsibilities, hopes and plans.
And they mean being there as those things change.
As VFA continues to grow, that is something we don't want to lose sight of. Growth gives us the opportunity to bring more experience, resources and perspectives to the table. But at the center of all of it should remain something very simple:
You.
So, whether this is your first newsletter from us or one of many, we'll leave you with a question worth revisiting from time to time:What matters most to you?
You don't need to have a perfect answer. In fact, we expect that answer to change throughout your life.
Our job is to keep asking, keep listening and help make sure your financial life continues to support it.
That's what we mean when we say we're herefor what matters most.
